Base Trail: WF-100 Mile 98

The top of the Base Trail is mile 98 along the Wasatch Front 100 Mile Endurance Run
The easiest access to the cache is from the Visitor Center of Wasatch State Park. From the parking lot follow the trail heading South. Cross the road, turn left on a dirt road to reach the trailhead. Follow the trail heading uphill. You will cross over an old dirt road, head up through the trees. You will cross over another wide path and continue up to the sign indicating the Base Trail goes to the right. Eventually you will emerge from the trees, cross a meadow and end up on top of the ridge. Head uphill and you will be very close to the cache. It is a small tupperware hidden next to a rock outcrop at the base of a small maple tree. It is well covered with rocks. If you wish to make a loop out of the hike, head down the ridge bypassing the Base Trail until you reach the next trail heading off the ridge. This is the official Ridge Trail which takes you back to the sign you saw earlier.
Phew. Nice hike. It was 1.4 miles up and 1.6 miles back to make the loop. The trail was pretty muddy in spots, and still had snow on it in the shadowy areas. So it made for an interesting hike. There was one area that had a vernal pond (only there in the spring) with hundreds of spring peepers (frogs) sounding their chorus. It was very cool.

I just took a couple of pictures along the trail, and then forgot to take one of the actual cache. What a goof. Oh well, here are some of the views.

Soldier Hollow Cache

Located Near The Soldier Hollow train station in Wasatch Mountain State Park
The cash is a small blue and white Coleman picnic jug.

I visited this little spot today while taking a little break from office work. It inspired me to go visit another one that requires more of a hike. I'll be heading that way as soon as I finish here.

It's in a nice little spot. There was an Osprey nest with an Osprey in it. I heard some nice spring warbling of birds. It was a little mucky walking to the cache, but fun to find.

Joshua's Cache

The container is a light brown plastic container about 10 inches long and 4 inches in diameter.

I placed this cache for my oldest grandchild, Joshua. I am going to place a cache for each of my grandchildren, then, when they come to visit, they can find their own cache.

The cache is on the Murray Jordan River Parkway about 50 feet of the path.

This one was fun, too! It was dark by now, but we had a flashlight. So we hiked about .4 miles to find it. It was tough to see, but AJ found it!

AJ took a pair of dice and left a large green school eraser.

We had a great night!!

Bridge Over (un)Troubled Waters

Located by a new park on the Jordan River, and a good place to reflect, or have a peaceful minute.

Please be decreet with finding this cache. It is the typical mint tin, but placed to be out of sight. You can take some time to catch your breath and enjoy the river, and still not give away the hiding place... if you are careful.

This one was tricky! Not only was it getting dark, but we needed to be quite discreet. And it was well hidden. The clue was "Think like a geocacher". Hmm .... Chel finally did!

AJ took a travel bug to leave at another location. We left our happy thoughts. ;)

Finally a Park to Ourselves - Shake a Micro #3

This is a micro that I got sometime ago and finally got around to placing.

Located in Vista Park. Please note this park closes at 11 PM. If you do bring your pets they must be on a leash at all times. Cleanup after your pets is also mandatory.

You will need to bring your own writing utensil and tweezers. Please hide just as well if not better. Be sure to let us know if the cache requires any attention.

Most of all have fun!

This one was much like the previous two. But the fun never wore off!

Finally a Park to Ourselves - Shake a Micro #2

Another spawned micro located in Vista Park. Please note this park closes at 11 PM. If you do bring your pets they must be on a leash at all times. Cleanup after your pets is also mandatory.

Once again this one is a daughter of the evil spawner. Thanks GR8GPN!

We didn't take pictures of this one. We did it right after #1. It looks quite similar. So just imagine ... ;)
